Travels with Abs - Farmington, N.M. to Kanab, Utah

One request Abs had was to visit Four Corners.
"The corners of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah, are the only place in the U.S. where four states touch." She wanted to put a hand in two states and a foot in two states. I aimed to please.
What I did not realize was this tiny plot of land was, of course, owned by the Indians. $3.00 per person to get in. I had promised Abs, so we paid the fee and entered. There was a platform overlooking a concrete slab which had the corners of the 4 states marked and a small circle marking where they all met. Abs stood in line to get her photo taken and I stood in line to do the honors. When her turn arrived, she stood still as a statue, no longer desiring to get on all fours for her treasured photo.

There were, of course, the usual accumulation of vendors, most of which we bypassed. We headed on down the road, having spent a total of approximately 30 minutes in, what I perceived as, a tourist trap.
We fared better down the road when we stumbled on Lake Powell. The beautiful aqua colored water bordered by plants of various hues of green was a good place to rest our eyes from the striking contrast of red rock formations.
We watched small lizards, which seem to be plentiful in the desert area, frolic around the openings in the rocks.
We had seen one prong-horned antelope earlier in the day. It stood very near the road as we sped by and I was too shocked to stop in time.
I have always been surprised by Utah's beauty. I guess it is the heat that makes it difficult to visit the in the summer. We stopped for 2 nights in Kanab, Utah. It was time to wash clothes and rest a little.

  1. We were lucky enough to be @ 4 Corners before it became such a money making place for the Navajo. I think Ke. bought a silver necklace there. The silver washed off in her next shower. If I remember correctly, the actual 4 Corners has been located by GPS slightly off of the one you visited, but who cares.

  8. " Pizza was called (and is still called) tomato pie and pizza pie in certain parts of the States. Net offers two important top toaster oven accessories which are the hanging toaster mound and the rotisserie kit. It didn't help that every pizza recipe I saw online would mention the dreaded "bread mасhіne.
